Project title:  Improvement of water resources management in Gjakova and Bijelo Polje

Overall objective of the Action:
Contribution to sustainable environmental development in the cross-border area between Kosovo and Montenegro by improvement of protection and management of natural resources.
Specific objective of the Action: Improvement of protection and management of natural water resources in Gjakova and Bijelo Polje municipalities
Target Group: Public water enterprises in the municipality of Gjakova, Kosovo & the municipality of Bijelo Polje, Montenegro, their residents & beneficiaries.
Final Beneficiaries: Final beneficiaries are the residents in the cross-border areas and the entire population in Kosovo and Montenegro.
Results of the Action:
Expected result 1: Enhanced protection and management of natural water resources in Gjakova and Bijelo Polje

  • 40% of the areas covered by water supplying systems are recorded and entered into GISs;
  • 100% of illegal connections are registered in 40% of recorded areas covered by water supplying systems;
  • Equip water supply companies with missing GIS equipment (5 computers with licensed programmes for GIS introductions and 2 GPS devices);
  • Strengthen capacities of employees to manage GIS.

Expected result 2: Increased knowledge and awareness of population in Gjakova and Bijelo Polje on need and importance of preserving water resources

  • 1 Communication and Visibility Plan drafted;
  • 2 opening and 2 closing conferences organised;
  • Citizens informed about need and importance of water resources preservation;
  • Two media campaigns implemented within the project (TV, radio, newspapers articles, posters, billboards).

Expected result 3: Strengthened the capacity and cooperation between enterprises of water in Gjakova and Bijelo Polje.

  • 4 study visits organized in Gjakova and Bijelo Polje on water management info exchange with 20 participants each;
  • 18 meetings of the project team held.
